   Define your grading structure

   Set up the subjects or courses, assignment types (homework, quiz, exam, project), and grading scale (A/B/C/D/F or percentage). These are the foundation of your gradebook.

   Describe the gradebook to Appaca

   Tell Appaca: "Build a gradebook with students (name, class, ID), subjects, assignments per subject (title, type, max points, due date), grades per student per assignment, and a dashboard showing each student's average per subject and overall GPA."

   Add your class roster

   Enter each student with their name and class. For a single teacher, this might be one class. For department tracking, organize by class section.

   Enter assignments as you set them

   As you assign homework, quizzes, and exams, add them to the gradebook with due date and maximum points. This creates your assignment calendar.

   Enter grades as you mark work

   After marking each assignment, enter each student's score. The gradebook calculates averages and running grades automatically.

   Review grade distributions

   The class average view shows how the class performed on each assignment. Low averages indicate concepts that need re-teaching.
