How to Build an HR Performance Review App

   Design your review structure

   Decide on review cadence (quarterly, semi-annual, annual), review components (self-assessment, manager assessment, 360 feedback, goal review), and rating scale (1-5 or competency-based).

   Describe the app to Appaca

   Tell Appaca: "Build a performance review app with employees, review cycles per employee per period (self-rating 1-5, manager rating, strengths, areas for improvement, goals for next period), and a dashboard showing outstanding reviews and rating distribution."

   Set up the employee list

   Add each employee with their name, department, manager, and start date. Link each employee to their manager for review routing.

   Create a review cycle

   For each review period (Q1 2026 etc.), create review records for every employee. The app tracks which reviews are outstanding and which are complete.

   Run self-assessments first

   Employees complete their self-assessment first. They rate themselves on competencies and write their accomplishments and development goals.

6. 6

   Complete manager reviews

   After self-assessments are done, managers review each direct report. The manager sees the self-assessment and adds their own ratings and comments.
