Google Drive

Authorize Google Drive so apps and coworkers can find files, read their contents, and organize folders.

The Google Drive connector lets apps and coworkers find, read, and organize files available to the connected Google account. Connectors require a paid plan.

Authorize it

Workspace owners and admins can connect Google Drive.

  1. Open Google Drive settings

Go to SettingsConnectors and select Google Drive.

  2. Set Access

Choose Everyone in this workspace or select individual members.

  3. Connect Google Drive

Select Connect, choose the Google account, and approve access.

  4. Assign the connector

Open the app or coworker’s SettingsConnectors, enable Google Drive, and select Save.

What apps and coworkers can do

  • List files in a folder or at the root
  • Search files by name or by their contents
  • Get file details
  • Read supported file contents, including Google Docs, Google Sheets, and text files
  • Create a folder
  • Move a file to a different folder
  • Delete a file, which sends it to the trash rather than erasing it

A coworker can use these actions in chats and Pulses. File content shown to a coworker may be shortened for long files.

Drive or Knowledge?

Use Drive when files change frequently, when you do not know in advance which file will be needed, or when the workflow is about the files themselves: filing, organizing, or locating.

Use Knowledge when a specific document should reliably inform a coworker’s answers. Knowledge requires a paid plan and processes documents for retrieval.

Limits worth designing around

The connector cannot upload new files. Deleting a file moves it to Drive trash.

When something cannot be found

Confirm that the connected Google account can open the file, then confirm that Google Drive is assigned to the app or coworker. If access has expired, disconnect and reconnect the connector.
